Merger talks are advancing between Dow Chemical and Du Pont. That along with other recent large mergers has created consolidation concerns from National Farmers Union officials. NFU Senior Vice President of Programs Chandler Goule says there’s been a rash of recent mergers effecting agriculture. He says they don’t benefit farmers and ranchers but only the companies involved.
Goule says farmers, ranchers and consumers usually end up bearing the cost of mega company mergers.
He says when large mergers come up there hasn’t been much oversight regarding antitrust problems.
Both Dow and Du Pont each have a market capitalization of about $60 billion.
