National Farmers Union leaders are disappointed with the Senate approval of Trade Promotion authority legislation. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says they’ll now work to try and get the House to defeat that measure. He says taking Congress out of the debate on trade agreements is not a good idea.

Hansen was also discouraged Senators defeated a provision in the bill addressing currency manipulation. He says that along with value added taxes have led to past trade agreements that have led to a massive U.S. trade deficit.

Hansen says having a $9 trillion trade deficit since 1994 is horrible trade policy and Congress needs to recognize that when the TPA vote comes up in the House.
