National Farmers Union members are in Savannah, Georgia this week for their national convention. It’s the final one for Roger Johnson as President of the organization as he’s retiring. Johnson says their delegates have three major concerns. One he says is the current depressed state of the ag economy and the uncertainty surrounding it caused by several factors.

He says another major worry for Farmers Union members are weather challenges that hit the Northern Plains last year and has the possibility of repeating somewhat this year.

Johnson says the third area of concern is the damage biofuels have sustained as a result of the Trump administration’s EPA granting of several small refiner exemptions from the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Johnson says Farmers Union has three candidates running to replace him as President. They include Farmers Union’s current Senior Vice President of Public Policy Rob Larew, former National Vice President and current Kansas Farmers Union President Donn Teske, and Mike Eby, Pennsylvania Farmers Union Board member.
