Concern over the depressed farm economy along with farm stress are tops of mind for delegates attending the National Farmers Union convention this week in Savannah, Georgia. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says much of their discussion has centered on trying to find solutions for the low prices as well as for assistance for those farmers and ranchers dealing with depression.
He says NFU members also heard from Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue who also talked about efforts by both NFU and the American Farm Bureau to help relieve producers of their stress.
Sombke says there also was a lot of talk about climate change and producers working to store carbon and enhance water quality.
Sombke says most of Wednesday’s session will center around policy development.
