Earlier reports were that the National Farmers Union was opposing President Joe Biden’s 30 BY 30 proposal of conserving 30 percent of land and waters in the US.by the year 2030. National Farmers Union’s Vice President of Advocacy Mike Franz says at this point they need many more details before seeing an official proposal.
He says 30 by 30 at this point is just an array of ideas and not a real specific plan.
Franz says while NFU has priorities on climate change, more of those must be brought out in 30 by 30.
South Dakota’s two Senators have sent a letter to Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland expressing concerns with the 30 by 30 directive and want to make sure the administration is taking into account concerns of farmers and ranchers with any environmental policy they push forward.
