National Farmers Organization members discussed way to help financially struggling farmers, especially dairymen at their national convention this week in Ames, Iowa. NFO President Paul Olson says the dairy industry needs some type of supply management program like the one utilized in Wisconsin.

He says the new Dairy Margin Coverage program in the 2018 farm bill is better than the Margin Protection Program, but more assistance is still needed.

Olson says farmers need certainty and getting the new farm bill implemented quickly is critical.

Olson says NFO members also want the government to finalize bilateral trade agreements with Japan and other southeast Asian partners. Plus, the USMCA must get ratified.
