U.S. Department of Agriculture researchers on Plum Island have reportedly developed a promising vaccine for African Swine Fever. The Director of the Swine Health Information Center, Dr. Paul Sundberg, says research on ASF and preventative vaccines have been going on for decades in the industry without a full breakthrough.

He says currently there are no ASF vaccines that are ready for market nor will there be any soon, including this strain.

And Sundberg says researchers working on a vaccine have faced many technical issues because of the complexity of the virus.

Researchers in China also claim to have developed a vaccine for the disease that as devastated their swine herd. However, Sundberg says it is a different strain.
