University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds is new to the position of heading up the university system…and new to the state.
Bounds comes to Nebraska from Mississippi, where he served as Commissioner of Higher Education.
Bounds decided his first order of business was to tour the state.

Bounds spent time on state college campuses, the campuses of community colleges, and in high schools.
He says his message to high school students is that they will need to get more than a high school diploma, whether that means a degree from a four-year institution or job training at a two-year school.

Bounds says if a Nebraska high school student wants to go to college, the state needs to assure him or her that they can.
