Taiwan’s new President Tsai Ing-wen is in favor of joining the Trans Pacific Partnership and may be willing to lift its ban on pork given the feed additive ractopamine That ban has kept a large amount of U.S pork out of the market. Iowa Pork Producer’s President Dave Struthers says the change in leadership and reported position is a good sign for future trade.

He says it’s important to keep pushing the ractopamine issue with Taiwan and get full opening to that market.

Struthers says Taiwan is seeing what’s happening with other countries as it relates to trade and accepting science based standards for ractopamine.

Twenty six countries have already approved imports of ractopamine fed pork.
