A new analysis by the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development at Iowa State University demonstrates that the statutory levels of the Renewable Fuel Standard of 15 billion gallons in 2016 is attainable thanks to sales of E 85. Study Co Author and ISU Professor of Economics Bruce Babcock says their analysis shows E 85 sales prove RFS cuts are unnecessary.
The study’s other Co-Author and Assistant Professor of Economics Sebastien Pouilot says there are varying views on whether or not E 85 is beneficial in the long run.
Babcock says their study also shows if the RFS is allowed to operate properly, consumers will purchase E 85 fuel.
Earlier this year the EPA proposed to dramatically decrease ethanol volume targets under the RFS from 15 billion gallons in 2016 to 14 billion gallons which is less than what was produced nationally in 2014.
