The South Dakota legislature passed a bill this session that would mandate all government bodies have a section of their meetings available to public comment.
The Yankton City Commission has a standing agenda item that allows people to offer comments on any issue.
Mayor Jake Hoffner says they can’t take action on anything they hear…..

Hoffner says the public appearance time has been useful…..

Hoffner says there still has to be some limits on how many can speak and for how long…..

The bill is awaiting action by Governor Dennis Daugaard.
