New signage is going up across Nebraska at historical sites.

The reason is a name change for the State Historical Society.

Director and CEO Trevor Jones says focus groups favored History Nebraska for the new identity.

He says people love their state history but weren’t connecting that with what the state historical society did.

Jones says the word “society” was a hang up for some people.

Jones says research showed Nebraskans weren’t recognizing all the things his agency does.

He thinks rebranding with the new name and better engagement will change that.
