The new Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the SDSU campus features a field manufactured from a soybean based synthetic grass. The renewable product, 3D rootzone uses BioCel soy based polyurethane to which the grass like turf is rooted. United Soybean Board Secretary Lewis Bainbridge who farms near Ethan says it’s a win win for the state’s farmers and SDSU and its athletes.
The new field will be shown during the dedication ceremony for the new Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic complex Saturday afternoon at SDSU. Bainbridge says the new soy turf replaces a significant portion of the former turf made of petro based polyol.
Bainbridge says the 3D root zone turf has several advantages.
Soybean check off funded research led to development of the soy based turf.
