The new president of the South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association wants to address disease traceability and meat labeling during his tenure. Spearfish cow calf producer Eric Jennings says they want the industry to make some progress on the development and implementation of radio frequency identification tags.

He says there are some technical issues to work out on the RFID tags, but the major goal is improving animal disease traceability.

Jennings say another concern for SDCA is proper labeling of beef verses alternative proteins.

He says beef needs to be labeled Product of the USA and it can be done voluntarily and still ensure consumers are getting what they want.
