A new organic equivalency agreement between the United States and Switzerland has been signed that streamlines the trans Atlantic flow of organic trade. Organic Trade Association Executive Director and CEO Laura Batcha says the deal provides a greater market for U.S. organic producers as Switzerland’s residents consume more organic foods than any other country.
Batcha says this agreement eliminates the need for two sets of fees, inspections and paperwork while still upholding high organic oversight standards.
She says being able to increase organic exports is important for U.S. producers and their bottomline.
Batcha says this agreement took three years to finalize and is largely due to the United States Trade Representative’s office and USDA working together with the industry.
