Railroad service could be returning to a long dormant branch line.
The South Dakota State Railroad Board, meeting in Pierre yesterday, selected an operator for the Napa to Platte rail line.
Board Chairman Todd Yeaton of Kimball says an already operating short line company was awarded the lease for the line…………
The line runs from the Napa junction in western Yankton County, to Platte in Charles Mix County, and has not seen service since the 1980s.
Yeaton says Dakota Southern will restore rail service into Bon Homme County…………
Yeaton says they agreed on a sixty day lease to begin with, to allow Dakota Southern to begin the restoration process……
Yeaton says Dakota Southern told them they would eventually like to extend service to Wagner.
