Nebraska’s new Speaker of the Legislature hopes to keep a low profile.
Senator Jim Scheer of Norfolk says what he wants to accomplish as Speaker is to make every member of the Unicameral successful.

Scheer says it is not his job to find votes, but to make sure bills get fair hearings and an equitable change when they hit the floor for debate.
Scheer says any talk of issues the Unicameral needs to tackle this year must begin with the top priority

Scheer says “everything is on the table” as lawmakers consider how to close a funding gap in the current budget and consider an even larger one in the upcoming two-year budget.
