New Measures to Increase Transparency

United States Trade Representative Michael Froman has announced several new transparency measures to give Congress greater access to the full Trans Pacific Partnership negotiating text. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson whose group has criticized the administration to not being transparent enough on trade deals says the move is far too little too late and comes at the wrong time.

Johnson says the major problem with the administration’s approach on trade deals is it’s based on flawed policy that’s been in place for sometime and has led to massive trade deficit.

Johnson says the U.S. exports less than it imports and the current trade deficit ahs led to a three percent drop in the Gross Domestic Product hurting the U.S. economy.
