Northeast Iowa producer Al Wulfekuhle is the new President of the Iowa Pork Producers Association and has set many goals to move the industry forward. His group just started a new task force to help improve the state’s nutrient reduction management strategy. Wulfekuhle says pork producers can assist in that effort by maximizing the nutrients in manure.

Wulfekuhle also advises producers to work closely with their packers as they expect a shortage of slaughter capacity by the fourth quarter. However, he says that should improve in the future with the opening of a new packing plant.

Another goal is to improve consumer communication and he says its important producers are more transparent about the production practices they’re using.

Wulfekuhle says he also wants to get more producers involved on the Association’s various committees.
