A 9-Million-dollar federal grant will fund early mental health prevention services in three Nebraska cities.

Governor Pete Ricketts has announced the federal money will pay for early intervention services to prevent behavioral problems from slipping into mental illness. Ricketts says the state Behavioral Health Division will work with the Department of Education to make the best use of the federal funds. . .

Schools in Chadron, Hastings, and South Sioux City will get the grant money.

State Behavioral Health Division Director Sheri Dawson says while the money pays for professional services, it also will help families advocate for care. . .

The schools will each receive 1-point-8 Million dollars a year for the next five years to fund mental health programming.
