A ribbon cutting was held this week for the opening of a newly constructed barge loading and unloading facility at the Port of Blencoe, Iowa by NEW Cooperative of Fort Dodge. The Port is located between Council Bluffs and Sioux City. Iowa Agriculture Secretary Mike Naig says this facility represents a Gateway to Global trade for Western Iowa and the Region and will help with shipping out of corn, soybeans, dried distillers grains and bringing in fertilizer and wind turbines.
He says this Port will help deliver increased economic activity and better utilize the Missouri River which has been underutilized in the past.
Naig says the next step that needs to be taken is to make sure the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers keep those important navigation channels open.
The NEW Cooperative’s Blencoe Port facility is expected to annually accommodate 240,000 tons of soybeans, corn, dried distillers grains, dry fertilizers, ag lime, scrap metal and rock.
