The City of Yankton is working on a plan to replace and upgrade the communications system used by police and other city employees.
The city commission hired Gary Therkelsen, a radio communications consultant from Chaska Minnesota to look at the current system and make recommendations.
Therkelsen told the commission last night they should move toward an APCO P 25 type of system………..
Therkelsen says the change can be made in three phases, costing about one point two million dollars……
Therkelsen says the city has had very good performance from the current radio system, and should not move backward….
The commission then approved spending one hundred eighty six thousand dollars to replace mobile units, many of which are almost twenty years old. The other replacement issues will be considered during their budget meetings this spring and summer.
