The American Cancer Society has issued new guidelines for screening for breast cancer, which is to start later, and do it less often. The guidelines now say women can begin mammograms at age 45, and skip the routine manual breast checks by doctors.
Dr. Julianne Reiland is a breast care specialist and surgeon with the Avera Medical Group in Sioux Falls and says the latest guidelines are just the minimum………

Reiland says a number of women will fall outside the guidelines in any case………….

Reiland says doctors also take risk factors into consideration for any patient…………

Reiland says for many women that fall outside the normal guidelines, then a manual exam is good extra protection. She says women should check with their doctor if they have any questions.
