Groundbreaking will be held next Wednesday for the new 4-H Nordby Exhibit Hall on the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron. South Dakota State 4-H program director Peter Nielson says it’s an exciting time to have the groundbreaking and a good sign they’ll be able to raise the remaining funds for the $4.7 million project.

Nielson says thanks to the efforts of several generous individuals and groups, so far $3.9 million has been raised. He says having this new facility, which will likely be open for the 2016 State Fair, means a lot to South Dakota’s 4-H program.

When completed the Nordy 4-H Exhibit Hall will feature more than 30,000 square feet of exhibit space, multiple classrooms, a large kitchen for 4-H Special Foods competitions and a performance stage for activities year round.

Ceremonies start at 9 a.m. at the National Guard Armory on the fairgrounds next to the new 4-H building site.
