Nebraska’s Platte Institute held a panel discussion last week looking at possible solutions to rising property taxes. One of the panelists, Nebraska Farm Bureau Senior Economic Jay Rempe says the group and some State Senators have been considering possibly using sales tax exemptions as a possible revenue source for property tax relief.

He says there are other possible solutions to the property tax issue as well that Senators are looking at including possible changes to the state aid to education formula.

Rempe says Senators need to pass property tax relief during the upcoming legislative session starting in January.

Rempe says the whole property tax relief debate could take on a new dynamic depending on the results of November’s elections as there will be eight new Senators and a Governor’s race decided.
