Nebraska’s new road standards now better align with the transportation industry nationwide.

Roger Figard chairs the state’s Board of Public Roads Classifications and Standards.

He says the new guidelines are about less government, more flexibility, and common sense solutions.

Figard says the old standards may have required updating several miles of road when trying to address a smaller design issue.

The head of the Nebraska Department of Roads says new roads standards taking effect will save time and money.

Kyle Schneweis says transportation funding is scarce and must be used wisely.

The Nebraska Board of Public Roads Classification and Standards developed the new guidelines over several years.
