A Nebraska based coalition made up of the State Farm Bureau and Chamber of Commerce has been formed in opposition to proposed federal tax hikes. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue says they’re worried federal tax hike proposals could threaten farms, businesses and communities.
Nebraska Chamber of Commerce President Bryan Slone says planning to raise taxes at such a high level couldn’t come at a worse time for businesses trying to recover from the pandemic.
Congressman Jeff Fortenberry says changing the tax code will leave ag land in fewer hands and leave food production up to just a narrow few people.
Representative Don Bacon says the administration’s plan to eliminate stepped up basis which would increase capital gains taxes will increase even more expenses for businesses and farms and ranchers and lead to an astronomical federal budget.
Coalition representatives will look to grow the coalition and partners over the next few months heading into Congressional tax discussions targeted for late summer and early fall.
