Despite high temperatures early this summer and dry conditions, Nebraska Farmers are seeing a better winter wheat crop than anticipated. State Wheat Board Executive Director Royce Schaneman says they’re midway through harvest and the quality of the crop is better than they expected and producers are managing the crop well.
He says the average protein levels they’re getting is between 11 and 12 so far.
Schaneman says test weights range between 55 and 63 with an average of between 59 and 60. He says they’re seeing a wide range of yields between 30 and 119 bushels per acre with an average BPA of 50.
Schaneman says overall producers are seeing a bountiful harvest and protein levels are higher than they’ve been in several years., and are better than what’s been seen in wheat areas South of Nebraska.
