Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature, Senator Galen Hadley of Kearney, says the Unicameral had a great session, handling very tough issues as the session came to a close.
Legislators demonstrated their independence when they overrode three of Governor Pete Ricketts’ vetoes, including his veto of a bill to repeal the death penalty.
Hadley says the stars lined up for the vote in favor of repeal after three-and-a-half hours of solemn debate.
Hadley says overriding the governor on raising the gas tax isn’t the same as the other two vote overrides.
Hadley says the freshmen class of 18 had much to do with the shape of the legislative session. He says they came to the Unicameral with a sense of urgency to get things done.
