A preliminary step toward dealing with a 900-Million-dollar revenue shortfall has been taken by the Nebraska Unicameral.
Lawmakers have advanced, on a 46 to 1 vote, a bill making 137-Million dollars in cuts to the current budget.
Appropriations Committee chair, Senator John Stinner of Gering, says the bill attempts to deal incrementally with a dire budget situation.
Stinner says though some senators questioned the accuracy of the projected 900-Million-dollar revenue shortfall for the next two fiscal years, that is the number his committee is working with. . .
Stinner says he expects “contentious” debate once attention turns to the upcoming biennium budget
