Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg is warning Nebraskans to be aware of an unclaimed property scam through Linkedin.

Stenberg says the fake account was up to 350 followers before it could be removed this week.  Stenberg says one Texas person contacted them to say he had been contacted by email with the false claim that he was heir to $12 million that was now lying dormant and unclaimed.

Stenberg, says if you’re ever given a notice of unclaimed property, there’s one way of making sure it’s the real deal…

The Nebraska State Patrol has been notified and the investigation is ongoing.
