A trade delegation led by Nebraska Lieutenant Governor Mike Foley and Assistant State Agriculture Director Mat Habrock is in Israel this week. State Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Pete McClymont says they’re hoping to expand beef trade opportunities. He says Nebraska already has a kosher processing plant that ships some beef to Israel.
He says the key to success with Israel and other export markets is developing and cementing relationships.
McClymont says the Nebraska Beef Council has also had a big role in helping to enhance market opportunities for the state’s cattle producers.
According to USDA data, $433 million worth of beef products were imported into Israel in 2015. More than 90-percent of those imports came from South America and the rest from Europe. Nebraska is hoping to claim a significant share of that market.
