Maryland baseball coach John Szefc (Chef) says his team needs to guard against overconfidence as it enters its first season in the Big Ten.
The Terrapins are the popular pick to win the conference after winning 40 games in their last season in the powerful Atlantic Coast Conference and advancing to an NCAA super regional for the first time.
Szefc said it would be a “monstrous mistake” for his players to think they’ll be able to coast in the Big Ten, which rarely has been a factor on the national level the last 40 years.
Maryland and Nebraska are picked 1-2 in the Big Ten coaches’ preseason poll. The regular season starts Friday.
