A pair of Lincoln, Nebraska elementary school teachers have been honored by the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation as Ag in the Classroom Teachers of the Year for 2019. Foundation Director of Outreach Education Courtney Schaardt says fourth grade teacher Carolyn Dolezal and second grade teacher Abby Spaulding were chosen for their unique efforts of incorporating agriculture in their classrooms.

Schaardt says both Dolezal and Spaulding enhanced core subject learning by featuring agriculture in two different ways. She says Dolezal had her students participate in the Ag Pen Pal Program by writing to farmers and ranchers.

She says Spaulding incorporated agricultural technology into her classroom.

Schaardt says Dolezal and Spaulding are a great example of teachers in an urban setting providing ag education to students far removed from farms and ranches.
