Nebraskans United for Property Tax Reform and Education say tax relief measures up before the Unicameral during the budget debate don’t do enough to relieve property taxes. State Senators will take up the budget on Friday and will look at LB 640 and 461. Coalition member and Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska Board member Al Davis says neither achieve what the coalition wants.

He says LB 461, which is backed by the Governor, is focused on reducing income taxes.

Davis doesn’t think either LB 460 or LB 461 can get enough votes for approval.

LB 461 is projected to provide more than $400 million in individual and corporate income tax relief. However, only around $45 million is expected to be returned in property tax relief through the state aid to school’s formula.
