Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg says high school students are making gains when it comes to financial literacy.
His office provides a free, online program which covers banking, credit cards, and investing among other things.
Stenberg says about half the high schools in the state used the program this year.
He says the only financial literacy requirement for students is that there’s some content in their social studies program.
Stenberg says he would like to see the class become required.
He says the financial crisis ten years ago was based in part on too many people buying homes they could not afford.
