The Nebraska Legislature’s Agriculture Committee this week took testimony on three separate resolutions. LR 413 sponsored by Senator Al Davis drew the support of Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association, Independent Cattlemen of Nebraska and Nebraska Farmers Union. Farmers Union President John Hansen says it asks the USDA to withdraw its proposal to allow shipment of beef from Brazil.
Hansen says another resolution the state’s ag groups backed is in defense of the renewable fuel standard and opposing EPA’s proposal to scale back the volume obligations.
Hansen says the third resolution brought forward by Senator Al Davis calls for support of the revised Country of Origin Labeling law. He says ag groups were split on that with Farmers Union and Independent Cattlemen backing it and Farm Bureau and Nebraska Cattlemen’s Association opposing it.
