Nebraska State Dairy Group Wants Immigration Bill Passed As Ag Labor Needs Are Growing

The majority of Rural Nebraskans responding to a recent survey showed them supporting immigrants being able to apply for a pathway to citizenship. That’s important for the state’s industry that’s struggling to fill its labor needs. Kris Bousquet, Executive Director of the Nebraska State Dairy Association says that’s becoming a major problem for the state’s dairy industry.

He says several of the dairy workers are highly skilled while some come needing to be trained. Bousquet says dairy operators have improved their training to help get those workers up to speed.

Bousquet says they’ve been attempting to get Congress to pass an immigration bill and fallen short, but they’re not giving up.

He says they’d like to see fixes to the H2A visa program that would allow help for year round laborers.
