The U.S. and European Union announced a trade deal on Wednesday that included the EU lowering tariffs on industrial goods and working to buy more U.S. soybeans. Nebraska Soybean Board Director Greg Anderson says while it seems like a positive move there are unanswered questions with the deal, including the volume of purchases. Plus, he says the EU has already been buying some additional U.S. beans on the recent price break.
He says the other unknown is how much additional business the U.S. can pick up since the EU typically buys non-GMO soybeans.
Anderson says the deal really isn’t really a breakthrough for the soybean industry since there aren’t any tariffs on U.S. soybeans going into the EU.
