The top export market for U.S. Sorghum growers is China but the focus this year is on market diversification and expansion. That’s according to Nebraska Sorghum Producers Association Executive Director Nate Blum. He says they’re looking at trade with India, East Africa and other Southeast Asian nations.
Blum says in one of his visits with U.S Trade Ambassador Gregg Doud, he was told U.S. sorghum has an advantage over sorghum from other countries with China is because the U.S. product is non-GMO.
He says sorghum can meet domestic demand in a variety of ways.
Blum says they’re projecting that in 2021 sorghum acres will increase by about 10 percent of 6 million acres.
