A law that made it more difficult for Nebraska’s nonpartisan candidates to seek higher office was overturned as part of an agreement with the Secretary of State. Nebraska ACLU Executive Director, Danielle Conrad, calls the ruling good for democracy in Nebraska.
Conrad is pleased with the quick resolution of the issue.
The 2016 law greatly increased the number of signatures independent candidates needed to collect from 4,000 to over 120,000. The ACLU says the 3,000 percent increase was unconstitutional.
