Nebraska Senators Filibuster Meningitis Vaccinations

Nebraska Senators Filibuster Meningitis Vaccinations

A filibuster has prevailed and apparently killed a bill in the Nebraska legislature that would have required seventh grade students be vaccinated against bacterial meningitis.
Senator Bob Krist of Omaha, the bill’s sponsor, says senators have the freedom to vote against a bill that he believes would save lives. . .

Senator Mike Groene (grown nee) of North Platte led the filibuster, arguing state officials should educate Nebraskans about the benefits of the vaccine, not mandate it. . .

A move to end the filibuster and vote on the bill fell short of the votes needed.
