High property taxes are the number one issue that Nebraska state Senators are hearing about ahead of the 2019 legislative session.
Senator Tom Briese of Albion says he is open to any ideas that may lead to cutting taxes…

Briese sponsored a bill last year that would have raised sales taxes to cut property taxes. That bill was not approved.
He says there may be more of an effort to find some agreements early in the session….

Governor Pete Ricketts has talked of moving property taxes to a productivity base instead of being based on sales. Briese says he could support that, but it would not make much difference for many years.

The 2019 session will begin on January ninth.
