A Nebraska state senator is proposing a billion-dollar property tax cut.

Senator Steve Erdman of Bayard proposes the state provide a 50 cent income tax credit for each dollar in property taxes which go to fund public schools. Erdman says he understands the legislature would have to make up the billion-dollar cost of his proposal. . .

Erdman says the importance of property taxes is illustrated every time he talks to a tax payer. . .

If the legislature fails to approve the measure, he plans to take it to a vote of the people in November.
