A threat to mount a filibuster against Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch doesn’t sit well with Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer.
Fischer, a Republican, says the threat issued by the top Senate Democrat, Charles Schumer of New York, flies in the face of Senate tradition. She points out Democrats didn’t resort to the filibuster even during the contentious nomination of Justice Clarence Thomas in 1991. . .
She dismisses suggestions Democrats are simply turning the tables on Republicans who refused to even consider President Obama’s nominee, Judge Merrick Garland, last year. . .
If Democrats mount a filibuster and the rules aren’t changed, it would take a super-majority of 60 votes to end the filibuster and go to a vote on Gorsuch.
