The Nebraska legislature has overridden nearly all the line-item budget vetoes of Governor Dave Heineman.
Senator Mike Gloor of Grand Island rejected the notion that the legislature should use the cuts…and money from the state cash reserve…to provide property tax cuts. . .
Senator Beau McCoy of Omaha argued during floor debate the legislature should uphold the vetoes and use the money to cut property taxes. . .
The plea didn’t persuade enough legislators. Lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to put sixty one million of the sixty five million dollars vetoed back into the budget.
