The Hartington-Newcastle (NE) school board put out an early retirement option to its teachers late last year. The board wanted to make some budget adjustments, and begin recruiting new teachers.
Superintendent A.J. Johnson says they knew a few teachers might take the option, and take a lot of experience with them………

Johnson says they seem to have a number of veteran staff members….

Johnson says it is unusual for a rural district to have people stay as long at they do…………

Of the four teachers retiring, one has been on staff for forty two years, two for forty one years, and the fourth for thirty nine years.
Johnson says they believe they have replacement teachers in line to join the staff in the fall.
