The record flood in Nebraska and Iowa has significantly damaged rural infrastructure, including rail. Five routes of the Union Pacific rail network are closed in Iowa and Nebraska, while BNSF reports track closures in the same area in addition to North and South Dakota near the river. These shutdowns are impacting shipments of grain, ethanol and DDGs in the region
Dave Spencer with Farmers Pride Cooperative in Battle Creek says that is keeping those products from getting to end users.
He says some of the ethanol has had to go out from the plants by truck rather than rail.
Spencer says their feed mills have also been damaged by the flood waters which has made it difficult to get product to livestock producers.
He says feed mills have also been affected in Columbus, Fremont and West Point.
