The Nebraska Legislature has suspended it’s 2020 session during the COVID 19 pandemic. There’s a possibility they could resume in May or June whenever the speaker calls them back to Lincoln. State Farmers Union President John Hansen says the Revenue Committee Chairman is continuing to work on her property tax relief proposal and wants to meet with education leaders to find a compromise.

He says it’ll take a lot of discussions to bring all sides together to find a property tax relief solution and get the necessary votes for eventual passage whenever the Unicameral reconvenes.

Hansen says the way to solve the property tax problem is to come up with a legislative solution rather than having to go to the ballot box with a petition.

Hansen says Nebraskans are already paying more in property taxes than any of their neighboring major agricultural states.
