AARP just released their state-by-state scorecard on long term services and support for older adults. Susan Reinhard is their Public Policy Institute Vice President and says Nebraska is doing quite well and came in 15th best in the nation. She says they looked at 25 indicators and Nebraska scored high in several categories.
Reinhard says Nebraska came in 5th when it comes to offering assisted living and other residential care facilities besides nursing homes and 7th best for the rate of employment for those with disabilities under the age of 65.
Nebraska is also doing very well when it comes to assisting those with disabilities who are not senior citizens.
With the good news comes the bad and Reinhard says there are several categories where improvement is needed. Nebraska ranks 38th when it comes to the number of people on Medicare who leave a hospital for a nursing home but never get out. Nebraska ranks 39th when it comes to the use of chemical restraint on patients residing in nursing homes.
